EP 134.5: Tarot Analysis: The Hierophant | Major Arcana | Tradition and Spirituality

Listen on Spotify.

Summary:

This week's Tarot card is The Hierophant. This card features Ben Cox from my @tapas_app graphic novel, "Sam in New York."

I chose Ben as this card because The Hierophant represents tradition and convention, which Ben has always sought after.

He feels quite empty on the inside, but he feels that by adhering to convention, he can quell a lot of the fears about life and human nature. As such, he chooses to adopt a "sickeningly wholesome" (as @tete.depunk describes it) persona.

The two men in front of him are young Joel (on the left) and old Joel (on the right). This is a nod to the fact that in @tete.depunk's "Scale, Blood, and Bone," the AU version of Ben, Veniamen, influences Zhuel (SBB's equivalent of Joel) to do some things that will really impact the storyline. Find out more by subscribing to "Scale, Blood, and Bone" on @tapas_app!

Hi everyone! This week's Tarot card is The Hierophant.

This card features Ben Cox, the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Sam’s university, from my Tapas graphic novel, "Sam in New York."

Also known as The Pope or the Teacher, The Hierophant is ruled by Taurus. He is a religious figure who is the male counterpart of The High Priestess. As you can see, like his counterpart, he’s sitting in a sacred temple. His right-hand shows that he’s giving people a religious blessing.

I chose Ben because The Hierophant represents tradition and convention, which Ben has always sought after. He feels quite empty on the inside, but he feels that by adhering to convention, he can quell a lot of the fears about life and human nature. As such, he chooses to adopt a "sickeningly wholesome" (as @tete.depunk describes it) persona.

The Hierophant is also a teacher. His goal is to pass down his wisdom and initiate the two people in front of him into spirituality. The two men in front of him are young Joel (on the left) and old Joel (on the right). Canonically, Joel doesn’t interact with Ben in such a way, so this is actually a nod to another series. Specifically, in Tete’s "Scale, Blood, and Bone," the alternative universe version of Ben, Veniamen, influences Zhuel (“Scale, Blood, and Bone”'s equivalent of Joel) to do some things that will really impact the storyline. Veniamen is a sorcerer who has a lot of knowledge of dark magic and seeks to impart his knowledge to Zhuel.

Thanks for joining in, guys! We're going to be looking at another card next week.
